Do you remember the post about FibreShare from a couple of weeks ago? Well the latest share just ended and it was so fun participating, so I wanted to share a little update. This was the third FibreShare I’ve done. If you missed it, don’t worry they do a few a year (you can join their mailing list here for updates). I haven’t been able to participate in every share they have, but when I do join, it’s a lot of fun.
I like to do my best to give my share partner what I think they’ll like. It really helps to check out their Instagram feed (if they have one), but there is also a questionnaire that everyone fills out with their fiber likes. I always cross my fingers hoping my partner likes what I picked out, but I figure it’s for fun and getting fibers that you don’t normally use is a great way to challenge yourself and try something new.
It’s also really fun to connect directly with others that love fibers. I’ve gotten partners that I haven’t met before the share and I’ve also gotten partners that I knew of, but had never really talked to. And I think the best part is you can pick your fiber category, so if you’re interest is in knitting, crochet, weaving, or spinning you can get partnered up with someone else who likes it too and knows about your fiber art of choice.
The minimum amount you have to send to a partner is 200g of fiber, but some people get really creative and generous and send tools, extra fiber, or fun items. They also guarantee that you’ll get a package, even if your partner can’t send one for whatever reason.
My share partner said she was really into fall colors lately, so I pulled together some reds, a nice brassy yellow, some of that yarn I dyed (I also put some of that yarn in my shop), and my favorite moss green wool, along with lots of other fibers and some extras that I thought my partner would like. I also wanted to share an array of different textures, so my fibers included some jersey yarn, cotton, wool, and chiffon ribbon.
I lucked out and actually got Ashley, one of the FibreShare hosts as my partner, and as you might imagine she was super generous. She made me a really beautiful package with lots of textures, great colors, and fun things like pins and tools. Also I got some curly lamb locks! I’ve never worked with that before, so I’m super excited.
Did you sign up for this round of FibreShare too or a past share? If so what did you think of it? Did you make any fiber connections? Did you get any fibers that you’ve never tried before and are excited to use? Did you have fun making a package for your partner? I’d love to hear about your experiences.
Happy Weaving!

December 6, 2016 at 9:42 pmI participated this year! I got matched up with someone who has their own Angora goat herd and as I am getting some in the spring, this was amazing! And I found out through their instagram feed and messaging back and forth. I am in love with the beautiful package, but putting together one and connecting with other fiber folks was truly the best experience as well. HUGE fan!
