Weaving Techniques || The Weaver’s Knot

How to tie a weaver's knot to join threadsI have finally given the weaver’s knot a try. A weaver’s knot joins two threads together in a knot that will secure your threads and allow you to continue weaving. Since I’ve only just started using this technique, I’m not really sure if I’ll like this more or less then my previous process of starting a new thread next to the old and then securing the yarn tails when I finish my weave. I’ve included the steps to making a weaver’s knot along with a video so you can give it a try too and see if it could benefit your weaving!

So here are the steps: Continue Reading

Weaving Techniques || Hem Stitch on Circular Weave (Part 2)

Hem Stitch in a Circle Weave Part 2I’ve been trying more things with the hem stitch on the circular weave, and even though I don’t have more to add about the process (which I posted on here), I did want to share more pictures of the outcome.

In the first post about the process, I had hem stitched three warp groupings of two, which caused the warp threads to pull in. I then did a few rows of the plain stitch which showed how the warps were effected really nicely. There are six warp threads grouped and then there are gaps between the groupings.

Just Some Thoughts Weaving Tools

Let’s Talk About Weaving Tools

Weaving tools, which should I use?I think the most frequent question coming from those just starting their weaving journey is about what tools do they need to weave. The best answer to this is it really depends on what makes you most comfortable and what you’re making. I know, it would be nicer if there were one simple answer for everyone, but I’ve found that sometimes a tool will really resonate with one person and not another. I posted on what’s in my weaving bag at all times here, but I also wanted to talk about other tools that I don’t necessarily use.  I would love to hear from those of you with weaving experience.  For this post, let’s imagine we’re sitting around a table, sipping your favorite drink and having a fun discussion. Alright, so let’s talk through some tool options and please leave your thoughts in the comments below on which tools work for you and which don’t.

Just Some Thoughts Weavie Business

Weavie Business || How to Edit Your Photos

How to edit photos with a free appDo you remember my post about my 6 rules for taking better pictures of your weaves? In that post I showed you how you can take better pictures, even if you’re using your phone to take them. Well today I’m going to share how you can take those pictures and edit them with an app on your phone. Photo editing is important because even when you do your best to get perfect lighting and a really great photo, there are a lot of minor factors that can change how your product looks. The goal with editing is to make your product (your weave) look as great as it does in real life.

I’m going to share with you two different apps that you can edit with, but there are many more then just these two and if you find an app you like that has similar features then you can follow along on that app too. Also there is a lot you can do with the editing tools out there that I don’t know everything about, but I’ll share with you what I do know and what works for me! Remember each picture is different, so play around with your tool settings to get the perfect editing for that picture.

Just Some Thoughts

How Nice Does the Back Of a Weave Have To Be?

How nice does the back of a weave have to be?So how nice does the back of a weave have to be?  I have been asked this question a few times by people making wall hangings, so I thought it would be something interesting to talk about. When I first started out weaving I was trying really hard to make the back of my weave look really, really nice and clean. But as I continued weaving over the years I have thought about some things:

What is the purpose of the weave?

Weaving Techniques || Hem Stitch on a Circular Weave

Hem Stitch in a Circle WeaveEarlier this week, I was reflecting a little on how weaving a technique on a regular straight warp can change a lot when woven on a circular warp. In today’s post, I tried using the hem stitch on a circular weave and I really like the design it made. I plan to keep experimenting with this little weave and see what else I could make with the hem stitch. If you want to also try this, here are the steps I followed:
